SLYTHERIN - SIXTEEN - SIXTH - CARLOS PETERS
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
APPEARANCE:EYES: Like his father and his grandfather, Scorpius has cold, gray eyes. His eyes are not the sort that are very telling at all. He's mastered the art of never showing his emotions through his eyes. He doesn't want people to automatically know what he's thinking or feeling just by looking into them. It's not that he has anything to hide, for the most part, he'd just rather have a poker face than not.
HAIR: That striking blond hair of his grandfather. It's almost as easily recognizable as 'Malfoy' as that firecracker red is easily recognizable as 'Weasley'. He rarely ever takes the time to tame it, as the men of his family regularly do. Well, when he's at Hogwarts, anyways, as he's not being watched by his ever present family. At school, the most he does to style it is run his fingers through it occasionally. At home, and during functions, he'll smooth it back. Making him resemble his father almost identically.
BUILD: Slender and tall, and yet another resemblance to his father. He's muscular, but not in a bulky way. Rather, his muscles are long and lean. He's taller than most, standing at 6'1''. When he was younger, he used to slouch in his seat so that he didn't seem taller than the rest of his peers. But his parents nipped that habit in the bud.
OVERALL DEMEANOR: Scorpius carries himself with his head held high. To most that don't know him, he appears smug and self-satisfied. He always looks like he knows what's going on and that nothing surprises him. He rarely ever looks shocked or jarred. His constantly calm demeanor can be quite irritating, especially if people really want some emotion from him. But his grandfather made sure to teach his grandson to never give anyone the upper hand by allowing them to see his emotions. He's almost always seen with a cocky smirk on his face.
PATRONUS:His best memory is when he arrived at Hogwarts. Hogwarts afforded him the ability to make his own decisions, away from the overbearing presence of his grandfather. His first year was a lot of fun. No one really knew who his family was. Or, at least, Scorpius didn't really mention his family. And, if they did know, no one mentioned it. That first year, he just got to be Scorpius. And he was friends with whomever he wanted to be friends with. Scorpius has only successfully conjured a patronus once. It was in the form of a wolverine.
DEMENTOR:Scorpius was nine years old when his family decided to go on a camping trip. It wasn't even remotely close to the type of rugged, organic camping trip most people go on. The tent they stayed in was luxurious. And they even brought servants along. In a moment of youth-induced curiosity, Scorpius wandered off on his own, exploring the forest and playing the sort of pretend games only little kids can come up with. He became so engrossed in his games that he hadn't realized he wandered so far away from the camp. Trying to find his way back, he misstepped on slippery moss and tumbled down a steep embankment. On his way down, he hit his head on a rock and passed out.
He awoke in the dark, injured and alone. And he had to spend the night, crawled up and trying to fight off the cold, on his own. It was absolutely terrifying. At dawn, he heard his father's voice calling out for him and he was finally rescued from the ordeal. He doesn't get nightmares from it or anything like that. But remembering it does still send chills down his spine. And bringing it up around his mother causes her to hug him tightly for a good long while.
MIRROR OF ERISED:Scorpius doesn't say this out loud. In fact, if you asked him was he sees in the mirror, he'd probably come up with something like... becoming the greatest Quidditch player the world has ever seen or becoming the Minister for Magic. But, in reality, he just wants to make his family proud. He always feels like everything he does is never good enough for them. He just wants for them to feel like he's good enough to be a Malfoy.
BOGGART:Being shunned from his family for making the wrong choices. In physical form, it's his father and grandfather turning their backs to him. His mother and grandmother aren't there because they are more nurturing than the men.
AMORTENTIA:After it rains
Green tea
Old books
Leather
PERSONALITY:INTELLIGENT: He may not be in Ravenclaw, but Slytherins aren't exactly known for being dullards. Well... for the most part. Either way, Scorpius is quite smart. He's quick-witted and he's able to deduce situations with next to nothing amounts of information. He's an effortlessly good student, his only real academic competition coming from Rose Weasley. Not that he's competing. He doesn't really care for studying, but he'll do it because he knows good grades are expected from him. And even though he's confident he'll pass, it's better to be safe than sorry. He has a photogenic memory, so everything he sees, he remembers pretty accurately, making studying quite moot. But his parents expect it from him. No harm, no foul.
INSECURE: Scorpius comes off as cocky, smug, and self-assured, but under all that arrogant fluff is just a guy who knows what he's supposed to be, but finds it hard to live up to the expectations of being the sole heir to the Malfoy name and fortune. And to not admit to that fact, he puts on this facade of a young man who knows it all and is quite aware of it. Few people know that his facade is not who he really is. Very few people.
QUIETLY CHARITABLE: While many people boast about their good deeds, Scorpius keeps it to himself. Mainly because he doesn't exactly like being the center of attention. And if he can avoid being so, he'll do so. But he does like helping people. When a fellow student in his class was talking about not having any money to purchase textbooks, so they'd have to go through the school year book-less, Scorpius anonymously owled the student all the money they would need for new books. In his fifth year, a girl was sobbing to her friend that she wouldn't be able to go to the Christmas dance because her family couldn't afford to buy a dress, Scorpius had the house elves steal one of the girl's dresses and had it taken to a tailor, where a new, beautiful dress was made for her and delivered to her with a simple note that read 'Merry Christmas'.
CAUTIOUS: Scorpius is not the type of person to impulsively do anything. He's thoughtful. And will always weigh every option carefully before making up his mind. But once his mind is made up, Scorpius goes through with everything. He's very resourceful and determined. He doesn't shove his way to success. It's a very elegant finesse that true Slytherins have and one Scorpius definitely possesses.

HISTORY:A son. A collective breath of relief exhaled. Malfoys are not known for having large families. Such carelessness is looked upon as poor breeding. Or, in this case, indiscriminate breeding. It was a stroke of luck that Draco and Astoria had a son on their first try. Now, they wouldn't have to have more children. The only reason Astoria even existed was because her parents were trying for a son. Two children was too much. They settled on having only daughters. Like every wealthy pureblooded family, a son is always a wanted.
The moment it was announced that a boy had been born, the brandy and cigars were passed around and the smug look of satisfaction and masculinity pasted permanently on father and grandfather alike.
The named was picked out before the baby boy was even conceived. He was to be called Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy. And for the first couple of years, Scorpius was doted on and nurtured carefully by his mother and grandmother, who spent the majority of their time with the child. When they weren't hosting grand parties, of course. But even then, conversation always went back to the adorable bundle of joy. Narcissa swore that Scorpius would not be raised like Draco. As much as she loved her son, and as much as she was proud of the man he had become, his upbringing was marred by tradition.
You must do this. Why? Because you're a Malfoy. You must do that. Why? Because you're a Malfoy.
She wanted her grandson to be a Malfoy, yes. But to also be his own man. And she and Astoria continually talked about the many ways they would stand up to the overbearing Malfoy patriarch. And then little curious, loveable Scorpius turned eight. And he was immediately removed from his matriarchal care and thrust into the world of the pureblooded men. It tested Draco and Astoria's marriage many times. "Your father has no say over the way I want to raise my son, Draco! You are married to me. Make your choice now!" Draco was never able to stand up to his father, an ever domineering presence in his life.
"Astoria... he's just trying to look out for us. He does know what's best."
"It's clear to me where your loyalty lies. Scorpius and I will be staying with my parents until you grow a bloody spine!"
She always went back, though. And Scorpius continued to receive training from his grandfather. He was also put through the same etiquette training every wealthy pureblood instills in their child. And he excelled at all of them. If it were up to his grandfather, Lucius, Scorpius would have turned out to be equally as smug as the Malfoy men are known to be. But his mother undermined Lucius at every chance she could. When Lucius taught him that muggles were scum, Astoria put aside her own fear of the unknown and took Scorpius to a muggle fair, where he played with muggle children and played on muggle contraptions, such as a carousel or 'bumping cars'.
"They're different from us, Scorpius. And they cannot do the things we can do. But... we cannot build all of these great things that they do. See how inventive and quirky they are? It's to be admired. Not despised."
Whenever Lucius tried to make Scorpius believe his blood status was far superior than that of anyone else, Astoria stepped in and hosted parties mixed with people of different blood status and social standings. It was constant tension between Astoria and Lucius, who both had vastly different ideas of how Scorpius ought to be raised. It left the young boy confused. Sure, he's kinder and more open than his grandfather would prefer, but he's also incredibly conflicted. He's not sure how to make his family happy. It's not the sort of problems a boy ought to be even thinking about. That's why Scorpius was relieved to get away from his family and finally start attending Hogwarts.
That he was sorted into the house of Salazar Slytherin came of no surprise to him, or anyone else for that matter. His first year at Hogwarts was a total joy. Sure, he felt like a fish out of water for a few weeks, but he soon got into the stride of things. He loved that his family couldn't pull him in all sorts of different directions at the school. He was free to be his own person, make his own mistakes. And own up to them. But every year after that was different. People got older. And status started to matter. The Malfoys are one of the wealthiest families in England. Once people started to realize that, and care, Scorpius was basically forced to find friendships in only the house of Slytherin. Which he didn't mind too much. But it did hurt that status was a big deal to people. Even those who said they despised it.
He built a wall around himself, so that he wouldn't appear to care much about what people thought of him. And though he excelled at his studies and involved himself in Quidditch, his reputation as one of the 'spoiled Slytherin brats' ballooned completely out of his control. He doesn't do anything to actively combat the reputation built by other people. In fact, he finds that he prefers people think of him as a jerk who only cares about money and blood. Because, in his opinion, it's only uphill from there. Though, there are few people whose opinion he really cares about. For now, he's focused on figuring out how to live up to the Malfoy name... without losing the man he wants to become.------------------------------------------------------------------

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:Another owl from his grandfather. Scorpius recognized the regal owl as soon as it entered the Great Hall. It was hard to miss. Malfoy owls had been bred specifically for them. Bred to be large, flashy, and elegant. It dropped its package right in front of Scorpius, who pushed it aside to make way for a bowl of fruits. Popping a grape into his mouth, the blond grabbed the package and began unwrapping it, his facial expression absolutely neutral. A couple of his friends sat around him, chatting about this or that. The Malfoy heir was completely engrossed in his package, even though he appeared nonchalant.
In the package was an expensive leather jacket. One that Scorpius had seen on his summer travels with his grandparents. A small smirk appeared on his lips as he admired the craftsmanship, his fingers running over it. A rolled up piece of parchment stamped with his grandfather's insignia was settled on top of the jacket. Breaking the seal with his middle finger, he unrolled the parchment and, after grabbing a handful of grapes, began reading.
Scorpius,
You're sixteen now. That's a tremendous age for a Malfoy. As you know, a beautillion ball will be thrown over the Christmas break. You may invite your friends as you see fit, though I do urge you to run the list by your parents, as they are the ones organizing the event. This is basically the Malfoy family's way of letting other families know that you are now a man and in search of a wife.
I know your mother isn't exactly pleased at the prospect. Something about you being too young to look for a wife. It's absolute nonsense. A lot of what your mother says is absolute nonsense. The only reason your father couldn't carry on the the tradition was because -- well, there were extenuating circumstances.
Life is good for us Malfoys. As such, you ought to be doing your duty and searching for a fine woman who will help you carry on the good name. Should you require assistance, do not hesitate to request it from me. I will be all too pleased to help.
I remembered you lusted after this leather jacket while we were in Italy. Enjoy it. Happy birthday, Scorpius Hyperion.
Signed,
Lucius Malfoy
He couldn't help but roll his eyes at the whole thing. The traditional side of being a Malfoy was always an exhausting undertaking. And every turn there was a party he was supposed to attend, or a 'charity event' where all they ever did was throw money at the situation so as not to get their own hands dirty. It was tiresome. And irksome. But Scorpius obliged. His overwhelming need to be enough for all the members of his family weighed heavy on his heart. He wouldn't think about what his grandfather wrote in the letter. He'd have to agree with his mother. He was too young. For now, he would just enjoy the leather jacket. And his birthday, which next to no one knew about. He hated making a big deal out of himself. Even on his birthday. Instead, he would send a letter to his mother, thanking her for being strong.
That was a tradition he much preferred.
