it wasn't that jeremy was opposed to learning, it was that he was opposed to waking up early and group projects. is this even legal, he groaned to himself as he looked around the room. most of the people were either not huge fans of him or they were just too damn stupid to work with. ravenclaws might be considered the brains of hogwarts, but he questioned the placement of some of these dolts.
he did one last desperate search around the room. the professor was quickly threatening to just pair people up. and that was the very last thing jeremy wanted. with his luck he'd be stuck with someone he had stolen from. or someone he'd had sex with and then stopped talking to. then the professor said it. "alright, i didn't think this would be so hard. i'm gonna just pair you guys up. okay, first pairing: thalia and jeremy. go work at the table in the back."
jeremy would be lying if he said he didn't find the blonde utterly breathtaking. she had the most beautiful hair and skin that didn't show a single blemish. he swallowed heavily; it was rare that he was nervous around women, but there was something about this girl.
he walked over to where she sat, "sorry i'm your partner. i'm not very good at transfiguration. hopefully you are." he smiled. this girl was going to kill him. he could already feel a blush coming up on his cheeks. this wasn't supposed to happen to a self proclaimed lady killer.

If there was one thing Thalia had learned in her seven years at Hogwarts, it was that late nights and early mornings never mixed well. They always ended with one of two things; an extremely grumpy and irritable Thalia, or an overly happy giggly one. The mentioned late nights were usually attributed to studying or last minute essay writing, and the previous night had been no exception. Groaning slightly, she felt across her bedside table, firmly pressing the snooze button on her alarm clock. She blinking slightly, rolling off her bed and onto the floor before untangling her legs from the blue comforter and rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
Thalia groaned again, dragging herself up off the ground and stumbling over towards the bathroom. The small space was already filled with steam; her roommates had obviously already finished primping and gone down to breakfast. She splashed a bit of cold water onto her face, blinking away the water and finally looking back at her alarm clock. Her eyes widened as her mind registered the time; quarter to nine. She had just fifteen minutes to get all her stuff together and be down in her first class. Thalia immediately scrambled for her toothbrush, quickly brushing her teeth while simultaneously running a comb through her unruly curls.
It took a fair amount of rushing and a few glamor charms, but she managed to slip into the classroom looking as she normally did only moments before the bell rang. Thalia plopped down into her regular seat just in time to hear the professor announce that they’d be working in groups for the next couple of days. Her gaze instinctively fell onto one of her friend. However, she was already sitting beside someone else. A small frown graced her lips as she continued to stare at them, only snapping out of her reverie when she heard her name being called. She tried, (and failed), to stifle the grin that replaced her frown as he moved towards her. Thalia had only just started to notice Jeremy; he was fairly handsome, (something she was quite appreciative of), but he also presented quite a large challenge. From what she could tell, he was strictly off limits; a Slytherin wasn’t supposed to fall for a muggleborn, but she was quite determined to make it happen.
”I can think of quit a few people I wouldn’t like to be paired with, and you aren’t one of them.” She smiled, nervously biting her lip. Another important thing to know about Thalia when she was tired was that she tended to babble and say things she normally wouldn’t have. ”Not that you’d be my first choice, or anything, but… um….” By that time she was blushing a bright scarlett, and her stomach was rumbling loud enough for her to hear. ”Could you, um… pretend I didn’t say anything? I’m didn’t get much sleep and I tend to talk a lot more when I’m tired… and um, yeah.” She muttered, looking down at her textbook and flicking through the pages.

there were a couple of scenarios jeremy had created in his mind. the first one included thalia sneering at him and deciding to do the whole project by herself. the second involved her jumping his bones (he was hoping for this one, of course. the details did get a bit dirty the longer he let his mind wander). and the third was that she would just grin and bear it.
what she did was none of the above. if life was a multiple choice test, he would have failed. picking A rather than D.
she got even cuter (if that was even possible) when she started to blush and seemed a bit embarrassed, "no, don't worry. i like hearing you talk." he could feel the blush threatening to creep up his neck and reach his cheek, but he succeeded at keeping it at bay.
there was only room for one blusher in this group pairing and it sure as hell wasn't going to be jeremy.
jeremy watched her as she flipped through the book. he couldn't help but stare at the inhumanely blonde hair. it looked soft to the touch and he could only wonder what it felt like, what it smelt like. he busied his hands with opening up his own textbook to keep from reaching out, the impulsion stronger than most.
he looked over to her as he flipped to the correct chapter, "so, thalia, you any good at this class? i promise, i'm proper shite."
he wanted to ask her all kinds of questions. he wanted to know what her favorite color was, he wanted to know what she was afraid of and what her hopes for the future were. for the first time in a long time (or maybe ever) he wanted to get to know a woman. and not just have sex with her (although, trust him, he definitely wanted to have sex with thalia).
jeremy slammed his book shut, "this isn't due for a week, wanna just talk, maybe? i mean, you're a ravenclaw, so you're smart. and i'm a slytherin so i'm sure i can cram and devise a plan." if she had been any other girl than thalia, he would have winked. instead he opted to smile.
"besides, we can hang out outside of class and get it done in the library. i'm sure we're going to have to do some outside research to turn a couch into a rocking horse or whatever the stupid project is." this time he did blush. mostly because he had forgotten to pay attention when the professor had described what they would be doing for a project.
jeremy looked down at his hands, hoping she wouldn't notice how embarrassed he was. he didn't know how to act around this girl. around others it was easy. he would smile, wink, flirt, and then fuck.
a hot fire was in his stomach. and it was desire that was the fuel. instead it was white hot shame. he's known for his entire life that he wasn't a good person. but for the first time he really thought about how much he wanted to be good.
jeremy wanted to grow up to be someone. he wanted to be more than kleptomaniac with trust issues.

Merlin… she really had to learn how to control her mouth. Thalia had a bad tendency to talk before thinking, and although it sometimes got her out of some bad jams, it could also be dreadfully embarrassing. She could feel the bright blush slowly making its way up her neck and across her cheeks. Damn those stupid Hooper genes… her brother hadn’t been landed with the famous blushing, but of course she had! Now most people could only blush to a certain degree of red; Thalia on the other hand, could get darker and darker as the embarrassment continued. This was exactly what happened when he spoke next. Her eyes widened slightly as she stared at him, trying to wrap her brain around what he’d just said. ”Oh… well, um… I like hearing you talk to.” Good, a bit better than her previous ramblings.
She flipped open her textbook, slowly flicking through the pages until she found the one they’d be using. Biting her lip, Thalia glanced at him from under her lashes, trying to remain inconspicuous, only to find him staring back. She smiled slightly, using her hand to stifle her giggles as he spoke again. ”Transfigurations a bitch.” Thalia made a face, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. ”I’m about as bad at it as I am at driving.” It was the truth. Her dad had taking her driving once the previous summer, and had sworn never to let her step foot in the driver’s seat again. She’d only been in the car for about twenty minutes, and she had almost killed her neighbor’s cat, taken down a mailbox, and bashed up the garage door. Needless to say, Thalia wasn’t too keen to get back in a car anytime soon.
A large grin lit up her face as she took in his proposition; it sounded much better than working on the stupid project. ”Sounds good to me! I’d much rather talk than work… and as you said we could just cram it in near the end.” Thalia giggled. ”All-nighters can be loads of fun! We can use up my chocolate frog and powdered latté mix supplies! It’ll be great!” She bounced up and down in her seat for a few seconds before drawing her knees to her chest and resting her chin on the top of her knee. A proper all-nighter with Jeremy would definitely be fun, (although maybe not in the way he was thinking), and she was hopeful that he’d agree to it.
”A couch into a bookshelf, you mean.” She corrected, giggling into her leg. Thalia didn’t tend to pay attention in that particular class that often, but she’d been anticipating the project for quite some time. She had History of Magic after Transfiguration, and in one horribly misguided attempt at entertainment, she had read through the remaining pages of their textbook, and had briefly skimmed over the group project before falling asleep.
Thalia tipped her head to one side, studying him for a few moments before deciding what she was going to do. ”My favorite color is purple… your turn!” She grinned, lightly nudging his leg with her foot before hugging both legs to her chest.
